Carne con Chile is a hearty and flavorful Mexican dish made with beef, chili sauce, and spices. There are many variations, but here is a traditional recipe:
Ingredients:
1 pound beef stew meat
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 (15 oz) can chili sauce (you can use mild, medium, or hot chili sauce)
1 cup beef broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Brown the beef: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
Sauté the vegetables: Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Add the spices: Stir in the cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add the chili sauce and beef broth: Add the chili sauce and beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
Serve: Serve the carne con chile hot with rice, beans, tortillas, sour cream, and cheddar cheese.
Tips:
For a spicier dish, add fresh chilies as well.
Carne con chile can be frozen. Let it cool completely before freezing.
Enjoy!
