Gypsy roast (pork tenderloin with onions and spices): A Spicy Hungarian Delight

Cigánypecsenye is a delicious and spicy Hungarian dish made with pork, sausage, peppers, and onions. The meat and sausage are cooked in a cauldron, while the peppers and onions are prepared as a stew. Ingredients:

    1 kg pork shoulder

    200 g sausage

    2 onions

    3 green peppers

    2 tablespoons paprika

    1 tablespoon lard

    salt

    pepper

    1 teaspoon ground cumin

    1 teaspoon marjoram

 

Instructions:

    Cut the pork shoulder into cubes and slice the sausage into rings.

    Chop the onions and slice the green peppers.

    Heat the lard in a cauldron and fry the onions.

    Add the pork shoulder and fry until browned.

    Season with paprika, salt, pepper, cumin, and marjoram.

    Add a little water and simmer the meat until tender.

    Add the sausage and green peppers and fry together.

 

Tips:

    Cigánypecsenye can be served with fresh bread, mashed potatoes, or rice to taste.

    You can also cook the dish in the oven instead of a cauldron.
