German Pork Roast: Schweinebraten

German pork roast, also known as Schweinebraten, is a hearty and flavorful dish popular in many regions of Germany. The roast is made with pork, dark beer, and spices, and is often served with potato dumplings and cabbage salad.
Ingredients:
2.2 lbs pork shoulder, boneless and skinless
2 tablespoons oil
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1 bottle (16.9 fl. oz.) dark beer
1 cup water
Instructions:
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the pork and brown on all sides.
Transfer the pork to a baking dish. Add the onion, garlic, salt, pepper, bay leaf, marjoram, and caraway seeds.
Pour in the beer and water.
Cover the baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350 °F (180 °C) for 2-3 hours, or until the pork is tender.
When ready to serve, slice the pork and pour the pan juices over it.
Tips:
To enhance the flavor of the roast, marinate the pork in dark beer and spices before cooking.
Add fresh vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots, and celery to the roast.
Use sausage to add depth to the flavor of the roast.
Garnish with fresh parsley when serving.
